Rotherham miss out on reported loan target David Henen

Rotherham's bid to further strengthen their squad has been hindered after reported loan target David Henen has joined League One Fleetwood.

The 19-year-old Belgian striker was thought to be attracting attention from the Millers and fellow Championship strugglers Bolton, who discussed a deal, but the Cod Army have swooped to sign their man on a month's loan.

Henen said on Fleetwood's official site: “I am very happy to join Fleetwood Town and I feel it is a very good opportunity for me.

“It gives me a chance to play first team football instead of playing for the Everton U21 squad.

“I am looking forward to playing in League One. It is a very competitive league and it will set me up well for the future."

The Belgium youth international has yet to feature for Everton's first-team, having had his loan spell from Olympiakos turned into a permanent deal in the summer.

Millers boss Neil Redfearn is on the lookout for additions to his ailing squad as he tries to launch a resurrection in the Championship.

Several out-of-contract players have been training with the club this week, including Leon Best, who Redfearn is keen to strike a deal with.

With the Millers returning to action in just over a week against Leeds at Elland Road, the boss knows he is in a race against time.

“We’ve got to get on with it. We’ve got to crack on," he said.
