Four-star Millers go to town on Bolton with vital win
Rotherham
produced a superb second-half display to blow Bolton away in a 4-0
win which moves them out of the Sky Bet Championship drop zone.
After
a drab first half where Bolton's Zach Clough and the Millers' Danny
Ward traded misses from good chances, it was the hosts who did the
damage after the restart.
They
went ahead in the 56th minute when Grant Ward fired in
from outside of the area before Danny Ward made it 2-0 with a fine finish
after rounding Ben Amos before two late goals put the gloss on the
afternoon.
Joe
Newell slipped home a cool finish and then Jonson Clarke-Harris did
the same to make it a Boxing Day to remember.
After
a scrappy first half, the game could have gone either way in the
second, but the Millers started it better and a long spell of
pressure was rewarded with Grant Ward's opening goal. That provided
the Millers with a platform which they went on to take advantage of.
Grant
Ward (1-0 56min) – A short corner found its way to the edge of the
area where the on-loan Spurs midfielder controlled it and thumped in
a vicious left-footed volley which Ben Amos could not keep out.
Danny
Ward (2-0 74min) – The long-awaited Danny Ward goal finally came
with a fine finish as he rounded Amos and fired home from an acute
angle.
Joe
Newell (3-0 80min) – Newell was set clear by Tony Andreu and he
coolly slotted under Amos to put the game to bed.
Jonson
Clarke-Harris (4-0 86min) – It was a similar finish from the
substitute striker after he was put through on goal, calmly placing
into the bottom corner.
