Jordan Bowery agrees Oxford switch after Rotherham exit

Jordan Bowery has left Rotherham after agreeing to end his contract six months early in order to join Oxford.

The 24-year-old striker was a club-record buy from Aston Villa in the summer of 2014, costing around £250,000, but failed to live up to the hype scoring just six goals in 44 appearances.

He did not pull on the red and white shirt after a substitute's appearance at Middlesbrough in early November and had a loan spell at Bradford.

Boss Neil Redfearn decided that there was no future for Bowery at the Millers and he negotiated an early release from his contract, penning a short-term deal at League Two Oxford just hours later.

"Everyone at Rotherham United would like to wish Jordan all the best for the future," a club statement read.

Bowery added: "I’m really pleased to be joining Oxford. I have seen them play a couple of times this season and they play decent football and are challenging at the top of the table.

"I know Joe Skarz and Chris Maguire from Rotherham and they only had good things to say about the set up here and the ambition of the club.”

Bowery's switch to Oxford continues a precession of ex-Rotherham playings heading to the Kassam Stadium.

Maguire has recently returned from a loan spell while Joe Skarz, Johnny Mullins, Danny Hylton and Ryan Taylor are also playing for the U's.
