Rotherham begin 2016 with last-gasp heartbreak at Preston

Story of the game

Rotherham's 2016 started in heartbreak as they were beaten at Preston by Jonson Clarke-Harris' own goal at the death.

The Millers had impressed in the first half and led through Tony Andreu's fine header, coming from a quick break which he had started.

The second half was a different story, though, and after a spell of pressure, Preston levelled just after the hour when Eoin Doyle flicked home after some poor defending from a set-piece.

The home onslaught continued and just as it looked like the Millers would survive, Clarke-Harris headed into his own net.

Key moment

Just as everyone was about to celebrate taking a battling point, a skewed clearance from Danny Collins allowed Preston one more attack and the ball skimmed off Clarke-Harris' head and looped into the net.

Tony Andreu (1-0 36 minutes): Showing menace on the break, Andreu set Ward clear and timed his run perfectly to receive the cross back and head into the corner.
Eoin Doyle (1-1 64 minutes): After a long spell of pressure, the hosts levelled when Doyle tapped in from close range from a set-piece.
Jonson Clarke-Harris OG (1-2 90 minutes): Heartbreak for the Millers was confirmed when the striker skimmed a header from a long throw right at the death.
