Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn is expecting better things to come from Farrend Rawson
Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn
believes Farrend Rawson is only going to improve after extending his loan spell
at the club until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old defender’s
original six-month stay from Derby was due to come to an end, but the Millers
have moved quickly to ensure he will spend the rest of the campaign in South
Yorkshire.
The Rams have inserted a
24-hour recall clause and Rawson will be ineligible for the Sky Bet
Championship meeting between the two clubs on March 12.
Rawson has emerged as a key
player for the Millers this season after returning for a second stint following
last season’s infamous stay.
He has made 15 appearances
and forged a dominant central defensive partnership with Kirk Broadfoot, though
has struggled with injuries in recent weeks.
He hobbled out of Saturday’s
2-1 loss at Preston, but Redfearn has been impressed with the youngster’s form.
“Young Faz has done really
well,” he said.
“Faz has been impressive when
he has played; he is a talented young lad with a long career in front of
him.
“He has been here for a while
now, he was here for a spell last season, so he knows all about us and we know
all about him.
“He is still learning his
trade in what is a tough division but he has done really well. The more games
that he gets under his belt, the better he is going to be at this level.
“We are also obviously very
grateful to Derby County for allowing him to stay with us.”
