Former Rotherham midfielder Chris Maguire has revealed he was forced to train with the youth team during his final few weeks at the club.
Maguire left the Millers on transfer deadline day to re-join Oxford on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell at the Kassam Stadium.
He was back in South Yorkshire for around three weeks and with little chance of resurrecting his Millers career, said he had to train with the kids.
“You go back and you know game time is
going to be limited,” he revealed in the Oxford Mail.
“I ended up training with the kids so that
was obviously frustrating, but I am just happy to put that behind me, look
forward and get started at the weekend again.
"It can knock your
confidence, but I rose above it.
“I went in and worked hard, tried to help
the kids and enjoy it because if you beat yourself up about it then you only
get mad with yourself."
The former Sheffield Wednesday man played nine times for the U's during his two-month loan stint and was part of a side that is mounting a promotion push in League Two.
And that was crucial in his return to the Kassam Stadium after he turned down moves to higher-placed clubs last week.
“I had a few offers (from higher league
clubs),” he revealed.
“I said to my agent at the time that I have
already been here and there was a good chance of promotion.
“I have turned offers down and we will see
what happens in the summer, but my main focus right now is to help Oxford.
“I have come here to kick on and hopefully
you will see the net bulging more as well."
Maguire made 15 appearances for the Millers following his summer move from Sheffield Wednesday, but was never in contention under former boss Neil Redfearn, playing just over 100 minutes.
