Rotherham boss Neil Warnock to open discussions with Nile Ranger

Rotherham boss Neil Warnock will chat to out-of-contract striker Nile Ranger in the next 24 hours.

The controversial bad boy has been training with the Millers for the last fortnight following his release from Blackpool earlier in the season, but Warnock said it was only as a favour to allow him to get fit.

However, Warnock has revealed he will sit down with the 24-year-old imminently, though there is no suggestion that a deal is on the cards.

Warnock, who has already added free agents Paddy Kenny, Jerome Thomas and Lloyd Doyley to his squad, said: "I am speaking to him over the next 24 hours. Really, I will talk more about that next week."

The Millers boss has intimated that he is reluctant to add more bodies to his squad and there is little surprise given they have won three games in a row.

However, Warnock will be forced into changes when Derby arrive at New York Stadium on Saturday as Frazer Richardson is injured and Greg Halford is suspended.

Richard Wood is also feeling a hamstring injury, with Warnock saying the player himself will determine whether he is fit.

"He has got an inflamed hamstring, but it’s still very, very solid, so it is one of those things that the player has to decide really," the boss added.

"We only have two more games than have two weeks off so if he feels he should rest it then we are in agreement but if he doesn’t feel like he wants to lose his place then we will go along with it. We’ll know more in the next 24 hours.

"Lloyd Doyley is training and has been all week. He will come back into the squad."

Stephen Kelly is the likely replacement for Richardson and is set for his first start since December 19 following calf and knee injuries.

It's a case of the luck of the Irish for the Millers as in the five appearances Kelly has made, both starting and as a sub, they have won every game without conceding a goal.

Whether the defender can get through 90 minutes or not remains to be seen.

"I’ll tell you at 10 to five on Saturday, that’s the only answer," Warnock added.  "I hope so because he is desperate to do well because he has been outside for so long.

"He is a good player, he showed the other night, second half he did ever so well."
