Rotherham have 73 per cent of Championship survival according to projected stats

Rotherham have a 73 per cent chance of beating Sky Bet Championship relegation this season, according to a projected goals model.

The model, which tracks the attacking, defensive and overall strength of each club based on the quality of chances they create and allow, predicts the Millers will finish in 21st position come May.

This is just another tool to highlight the massive turnaround in fortunes in recent weeks as when the Millers headed in to March - with a gruelling run of fixtures in front of them - their chances of staying up were rated at an unlikely 31 per cent.

According to current ratings MK Dons will be joining Bolton and Charlton in League One next season.

The Dons, who have picked up points on a regular basis over the last month, have still registered eight less than the Millers, and they have a 52 per cent chance of beating the drop.

These stats do not take some mitigating factors into account, though.

For example, free-falling Brentford, who are only six points above the drop zone, have zero probability of going down according to the model while despite their dire run of form, Fulham are rated at 78 per cent to stay up.

Bolton - 12 points adrift of safety - have just one per cent chance of beating the drop, while Charlton are also as good as gone, with their hopes of staying up rated at three per cent.
