It’s Millers Time is paying tribute to a fantastic 2014 for Rotherham with a footballing advent calendar.
In each day of December, leading up to Christmas Day, we are looking back at a game from this year.
Behind window number 21 is a superb Championship home win.
Rotherham 2 Blackburn Rovers 0 (30/9/14)
This
has to go down as one of the famous wins at Rotherham's new home as
they coasted to the points.
Steve
Evans may have dressed it up as a victory over “former Premier
League champions”, which is technically correct, but it highlighted
the progress the Millers had made and had a cup-tie feel to it.
As
a result, the hosts were unsurprisingly quick out of the blocks and
took a fifth-minute lead.
Blackburn
failed to clear a corner and Kari Arnason struck the loose ball into
the bottom corner for a rare goal.
The
second goal came just after the half-hour and proved that hard work
does pay off.
Ben
Pringle's relentless chasing of Craig Conway forced him into a hasty
backpass that put keeper Jason Steele under pressure and his
clearance clattered into the legs of Luciano Becchio and into the
net.
Blackburn,
shell-shocked by their first-half battering, came to life after the
break and could have made a game of it.
Shane
Duffy's header was cleared off the line by Pringle, while hot-shot
Jordan Rhodes uncharacteristically fluffed his lines from just three
yards.
Had
that gone in, it would have set up a tense finale, but instead the
Millers held out for a second home win of the season.
Rotherham:
Collin,
Richardson, Broadfoot (Morgan 10), Arnason, Skarz, Taylor (Wordsworth
60), Green, Frecklington, Pringle, Becchio, Revell (Bowery 83)
Attendance:
9,525
One to remember: Ben Pringle's hard work paid off for the second goal.
One to forget: Kirk Broadfoot suffered injury woe in just the fifth minute and had to go off.
