Rotherham v Brighton: 5 things to look out for

Rotherham return to action on Easter Monday 72 hours after their damaging defeat at Birmingham where they saw their cushion above the drop zone cut to just four points.

Brighton are the visitors to the AESSEAL New York and nothing but a win will do for the Millers.

Here's five key points ahead of the game.

Where will Kari Arnason fit back into the side?
Arnason has been sidelined for the last two games after picking up 10 yellow cards, but having served his suspension, he is almost certain to come back into Steve Evans' starting XI. Prior to his ban the Iceland international was occupying a central midfield role, and did so with distinction, but with the Millers continuing to ship goals Evans may choose to revert to his tried and tested centre-back pairing of Craig Morgan and Arnason. That would allow Evans to stick with a central midfield pairing of Lee Frecklington and Richie Smallwood if the Millers boss was to go with a 4-4-2 or if the Scot fancies a 4-5-1 then there is room for Arnason in that midfield. Wherever he plays, his calmness and assurance will be a welcome return.

How to solve a problem of too many loanees
The problem when you have seven loanees in your squad is that two of them have to miss out on a matchday squad. For the last two matches Adam Hammill and Farrend Rawson have been the ones to sit in the stands. Hammill, although inconsistent, represents some threat off the bench and could be considered a better option than Lawrie Wilson, who has struggled in his opening two games. Rawson was a key performer at the heart of the Millers defence last time they kept a clean sheet and his two appearances have both ended in widespread praise. But when three of the back five are loanees, it ties the manager's hands and leaves space for only two in more attacking areas. Rawson is almost certain to miss out again against the Seagulls but Evans has a decision to make between Hammill, Wilson and Connor Sammon.

Danny Ward could provide a missing spark
Ward has been out for the last five games with first a foot injury and then a knee problem but Evans declared him 97 per cent fit ahead of the Birmingham game. He didn't make the squad at St Andrew's but is expected to return against Chris Hughton's men and he could provide a missing spark in attack. Before his injury problems the former Huddersfield man was hitting his straps and bagged two goals in his final two matches. If he is fit, he should return to the starting XI, perhaps playing just off Matt Derbyshire and replacing Connor Sammon. Then that might help to solve a problem of too many loanees.

The Millers are searching for home comforts
Not too long ago after the win over Millwall we predicted that it would be Rotherham's home form which kept them up this season. Since then the Millers have lost their last three outings at New York, the first time at their new home where they have suffered three league defeats in a row. Crucially one of those was against Wigan, while another was against Sheffield Wednesday when going into the fourth minute of injury time it was a game the hosts were winning. If Rotherham are to stay in this division, and right now that is looking a lot dicier than it should be, they have to regain that home form which they found at the turn of the year, starting with the visit of Brighton. A home win is absolutely imperative to Rotherham's survival.

All eyes on Wigan
The only good thing to come out of Friday's round of games was that Wigan lost again, ensuring the gap stayed at five points between them and the Millers. Again all eyes will be on what is happening at the DW Stadium as Malky Mackay's men take on a Derby side who appear to have hit the wall in their automatic promotion bid. This clash is a real difficult one to call as the Rams' form appears to give Wigan hope and Latics' dreadful run on home soil - they have not won there since August - has to end at some point. But with Steve McClaren's side have to up their game going into the final run-in.
The Millers are boosted by Millwall not being in action, owing to Blackburn's FA Cup replay, meaning that if they win they could put the gap up to seven points and crucially it just stops the Lions' gaining momentum following their late Good Friday win. We have well and truly entered squeaky bum time.
