Aidy White becomes first Rotherham summer signing to exit

Aidy White has become the first of Rotherham's summer signings to leave the club on a permanent basis after he had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, allowing him to join Barnsley.

The former Leeds winger was the Millers' first signing of the close season, but failed to make an impression and after just 10 appearances he was sent to Oakwell on loan in November.

He briefly returned to the club this week at the end of that loan spell but has negotiated an early release from his contract, putting pen to paper with the Reds on a deal until the end of the season.

A Millers statement read: "Rotherham United have agreed to terminate the contract of Aidy White by mutual consent.

"The 24-year-old has made 10 appearances in total for the Millers, featuring as a substitute on six different occasions during his stay at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

"White recently impressed on a loan spell at local neighbours Barnsley and made seven appearances for the Tykes after making the switch in late November.

"We would like to thank Aidy for his efforts whilst with the club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

White, who impressed in pre-season, was hauled off at half-time in his debut against MK Dons on the opening day of the season and was unable to recover.

The 24-year-old, released by Leeds in the summer, is glad to have got things tied up.

“I’m pleased to get it all sorted and can’t wait to get going again. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and we’ve picked up some good results.

“We’ve got a good side here and I’m sure we will climb the league even more and we have a great shot at reaching Wembley.”
