Luciano Becchio training with Rotherham with view to a deal

Former Rotherham loanee Luciano Becchio is back training with the club and boss Neil Redfearn hopes a deal is imminent.

The 32-year-old Argentinean, who scored twice in five games for the Millers last season, is currently a free agent and has joined up with the club this week.

Redfearn, who knows Becchio from their time at Leeds together, hopes to be able to get the striker fit during the two-week trial.

"Luciano is training with us. He is someone I knew from my time at Leeds," he said. "He has been out of the game a little while now, he had a bad ankle injury that he initially did here when he was on loan at Rotherham.

"He is back 100 per cent, he is back fit, he looks like he has lost weight to me, he looks strong, his finishing, without question is good and he is here for a couple of weeks.

"We have had discussions with his advisers so we know roundabout where we are whether we can do something.

"But we need to make sure we go through the process of making sure he is 100 per cent fit and he has had a couple of weeks under his belt. I am hoping, touch wood, that we can do something."

Becchio suffered a fractured heel just a few weeks into his loan stay at New York Stadium last Autumn and has not featured in English football since.
