Boss Neil Redfearn admitted he is an admirer of the Chesterfield midfielder, but is yet to turn that into anything firm in terms of an offer, already leaving them behind the ball game if he is on their wishlist.
Highly-rated Morsy, who is out of contract in the summer, has attracted plenty of attention this month with a host of Championship and League One clubs interested, and one unnamed second-tier club already has already had an offer rebuffed by the Spireites.
Further bids are expected and a conclusion to Morsy's future is set to be wrapped up within the next seven days as the window draws to a close.
Redfearn admitted he is a long-time fan of Morsy's but refused to be drawn on whether he likes him enough to bid this month, with the 23-year-old expected to cost a hefty six-figure fee.
The boss said: "Sam is another one who is a real talented young boy, he is somebody that I went to watch when I was at Leeds with my assistant Steve Thompson.
"We went to watch him and the boy (Tendayi) Darikwa who ended pup going to Burnley, so we weren’t bad judges.
