Rotherham striker Leon Best set for surgery on groin problem

Leon Best's troubled stay at Rotherham shows no signs of abating as he is set for surgery on a long-standing groin injury.

The former Newcastle striker has played just 73 minutes for the Millers since joining them in November and has not featured after being sent off on his debut in the 1-0 win at Leeds.

He aggravated the problem in training during his suspension and despite under going treatment which was hoped to be able to get him through games, he has missed the last four outings.

After a return visit to the specialist, Best will now go under the knife and be out for around three weeks.

“He’s seen the specialist,” frustrated boss Neil Redfearn said.

“The op is going to be done next week and they’re talking three weeks or so. We’re looking at the end of January for his return. That’s not too bad a turnaround.”

The Millers have won three and lost four of the seven games since Best made his solitary appearance at Elland Road.
