There is potential for it to be another famous night under
the New York Stadium lights as Rotherham close in on Championship safety.
A nine-game unbeaten run, containing six wins, has propelled
the Millers clear of the dropzone and their second-tier status could be assured
against Huddersfield on Tuesday if results go their way.
Going into the game nine points clear of MK Dons and 11 of Charlton with four to play, here are the permutations that could see Rotherham achieve
safety.
If Rotherham lose
Regardless of what MK Dons do at Sheffield Wednesday or
Charlton at Bolton, a defeat will ensure the Millers are still mathematically
able to get relegated. Though if Charlton lose along with the Millers, they
will be relegated.
If Rotherham draw, MK Dons lose and Charlton lose or draw
A point against the Terriers in addition to a loss for MK Dons and anything other than a win for Charlton would guarantee Championship football for the Millers
next season.
If Rotherham draw, MK
Dons draw and Charlton win
A draw for Rotherham and the Dons would mean it's status
quo, with Karl Robinson's men still able to overhaul the Millers on goal
difference. A Charlton win would also mean the Addicks could catch Rotherham.
If Rotherham draw and
MK Dons win
A win at Hillsborough for MK and a draw for the Millers
would see the gap cut down to seven points with three games to play. In this
scenario Charlton's result does not affect Rotherham, but the Addicks could be
relegated if they fail to better the results of Rotherham, Nottingham Forest,
Fulham and Blackburn.
If Rotherham win and
MK Dons win
MK Dons matching Rotherham in winning would keep their head
above water, barely, until Saturday at least. Three points for the Millers
means that Charlton would be unable to catch them.
If Rotherham win and MK
draw or lose
Three more points for Neil Warnock's men and anything less
for MK would stretch the gap to 11 points with three games to play and that
would be job done for the Millers. As mentioned above, Charlton would also be
unable to catch them and it would be party time at New York.
In summary
If Rotherham better MK Dons result and match Charlton's then they are safe.
