Halford rides into Millers

Greg Halford has become Rotherham's seventh signing of the summer after joining on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old defender, who has been linked with a move to the New York Stadium for much of the close season, has finally put pen to paper following his release from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Halford spent the latter part of last season on loan at Brighton, playing 90 minutes against the Millers in that ill-fated Easter Monday game, and with over 400 career appearances to his name, his experience and versatility could prove invaluable to the Millers.

"The chairman more than anyone will be aware that when I provided him with a list at the beginning of May of players we were targeting, Greg Halford quite simply was at the top of that list," boss Steve Evans said.

“There are a number of reasons behind that, not only is he a talented footballer, he is a talented footballer in a vast number of positions.

"He was nothing short of outstanding when he played as a main striker, when he led by example in helping Nottingham Forest to the play-offs when Billy Davies was in charge.

"Having spoken to Billy he gave Greg a huge endorsement, not only for his ability to play as a striker, but equally playing in central midfield, any full-back position and as many people will identify playing at centre-back."

Halford's arrival continues a rapid influx of players at New York, joining Emmanuel Ledesma, Danny Collins and Tom Thorpe in joining the Millers in July.
