Rawson gets chance for Millers redemption

Ever since Farrend Rawson hit the headlines last April for all the wrong reasons, there was a sense of unfinished business between him and Rotherham.

Rawson, who had been plucked from nowhere by boss Steve Evans to help out in a relegation dogfight, was the ineligible player which nearly cost the Millers their Championship status.

It was irony at its best as his performances in wins over Huddersfield and specifically Brighton - the game he was ineligible for - were crucial to putting them on the road to safety.

Although absolved of any blame in the issue, he was sent back to Derby on the quiet without any real recognition for the job he had done during his short time in South Yorkshire, with his name taking up more column inches and making more headlines than it ever did.

The loan move was Rawson's first taste of first-team football, with his Millers debut - coming at the John Smith's Stadium less than two hours after meeting his new team-mates  - also his senior bow.

That should be a significant memory in any player's career, but there's the possibility that was tarnished by events that went on in the administration office at New York Stadium.

But there is a chance for Rawson to write a new chapter with the Millers after rejoining on a six-month loan deal from the Rams.

He arrived back in South Yorkshire in a double loan swoop with Rams goalkeeper Kelle Roos and Evans is thrilled to get another chance to work with Rawson.

"I am absolutely delighted to have secured the services of young Faz. In a very short space of time towards the end of last season, he joined us as a boy and left us to go back to Derby County as a man," he said.

“His performances during his loan spell last season can only be described as outstanding, and I repeat what I said last season, this lad will go on and play in the Barclays Premier League.

“However he is still young, he still has a lot to learn and it will be my ultimate responsibility to harness and develop his talent, which in turn will hopefully see that prediction come true.”

Rawson's addition to the squad is expected to end Evans' defensive recruitment following the captures of Tom Thorpe, Lewis Buxton, Joe Mattock and Danny Collins.
