Rotherham United boss Steve Evans hauls his side in for Sunday training

There will be no day of rest for Rotherham's players after their horror start to the season, says boss Steve Evans.

The Millers began the 2015/16 campaign with a humbling 4-1 defeat by newly-promoted MK Dons to ensure they spent the first weekend at the bottom of the table.

And an unhappy Evans has hauled them in for training today as they begin the post-mortem to a poor display.

“We have to dissect some of the things that weren't right, there were some poor performances today individually,” Evans said.

“It's our job as a coaching staff to sit down with the players on the training ground tomorrow and look at it with some clarity. We’ll get back on the training ground on Sunday and Monday.

“I'm not coming out to make excuses. We'll take it bang in the face and get on with our football.

"There has been no shouting and bawling in the dressing room. It's just been a lesson learned.”

It could have been a different story had the Millers taken a raft of chances with the game poised at 1-1.

Matt Derbyshire brought the hosts back into the game after Rob Hall's early opener and they then enjoyed a spell of pressure which saw some glaring misses, none bigger than the open goal Aidy White missed.

Then within 15 minutes the Dons were leading 3-1 and the game was gone.

In a familiar theme to much of last season, Evans was left to rue that profligacy.

"If you don't defend right and take chances at key stages of the match it's always going to be tough," added the Millers boss.

"There's no excuse. The defending wasn't good enough. At 1-1 it only looked like there was one team in it but you can't miss the open goals and chances we miss and expect to win a game.

"We worked our way into the game and got a goal from Matt that we've been working on at the training ground and you can't get any better chances than what Aidy White misses. I can't see how he's missed it and I've watched it back 10 times.

"We missed three of four good chances. Within eight minutes they are 2-1 up. It is as disappointing a start to a new season as you can get.”
