Rotherham boss Steve Evans: I'll be here for years to come
Rotherham manager Steve Evans
says his job is not under threat and has been told by chairman Tony Stewart that he will be at the club for “years
to come”.
Evans, who has delivered the
Millers from League One to Championship safety in three seasons, is coming
under the cosh from a section of fans unhappy at their side’s start to the
campaign.
The Millers have lost four
and drawn one of their opening five league games and the manner of the
performance in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham had the alarm bells ringing.
And although the tide seems
to be turning in terms of support from the terraces, Evans insists that his
relationship with Stewart remains as strong as ever and has come out fighting
to the critics.
“We know we have started
poorly, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to stand in front of Steve Evans
and say that,” the Millers boss said.
“But they can’t take fight
and desire from me. We started poorly in League Two and we didn’t start great
in League One and the knockers were out.
“Let the knockers continue
and we’ll get on with business.
“My chairman has re-iterated
this week that I will be here for years to come, whatever division we are in,
because we manage the football club properly, prudently and we do it with great
affinity for the badge and what it means to everyone.
“Everyone has feelings and if
they tell you otherwise they would tell you lies.
“But what is important is a
track record of success, a track record of getting it right and a track record
of working so hard you get it right.”
