Greg Halford given clean slate by new Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn

New Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn has given Greg Halford the chance to rebuild his Millers career.

The former Sunderland and Nottingham Forest man, who was Steve Evans' marquee signing in the summer, has endured a turbulent start to life at the New York Stadium.

Having been made captain at the beginning of the campaign, he was stripped of the armband and dropped after seven games following a poor start for the team and on an individual basis.

Then after being left out of the squad all together against Burnley last time out, Halford took to Twitter to post a series of cryptic tweets, suggesting unrest at his omission.

They were quickly deleted, but then-caretaker Eric Black vowed to deal with him and his future at the club looked bleak.

But Redfearn's arrival could represent a second chance for the 30-year-old, with the former Leeds boss insisting he is starting from fresh.

"Greg has been good," Redfearn said at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

"For me he is treated like any other player, he has got an opportunity.

"He has a fantastic CV, if you look at his career he has played at some top clubs. He is only 30 years old, he can play centre-half, centre-forward, so for me he is a great asset. His attitude has been fine."
