Richard Wood's Rotherham nightmare suffers another blow
Richard
Wood's Rotherham career took another knock after he joined Chesterfield on a
three-month emergency loan.
The
30-year-old defender, who joined the club in the summer of 2014, has yet to
feature for the Millers this season and heads straight back out after a
month-long loan spell at Fleetwood ended on Saturday.
He
will now join up with the League One Spireites until January 23 2016, though
there is a 24-hour recall for the Millers after 28 days of the loan.
Chesterfield
boss Dean Saunders said: “Richard is a good pro with a great attitude and he will provide more
competition for places.
“There has been an imbalance in the squad since I got here because we
have been desperately short of defenders. Richard can play on the left or right
side of central defence and he will make the squad stronger.”
Wood, who had a spell on loan at Crawley last season, featured seven
times for the Cod Army after joining them in September.
His move back out of New York Stadium, without new boss Neil Redfearn
even wanting to assess him, surely is another nail in the coffin of his Millers
career.
Signed during Steve Evans’ signing spree last summer, Wood managed just
eight appearances in a red and white shirt, five before his loan stint in
Sussex and three at the back end of the campaign.
He was not in Evans’ early-season plans following the arrival of three
more centre-backs and his time as a Rotherham player looks to be over.
