Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn in race against time for new signings
Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn hopes to
bring in some new faces ahead of tomorrow’s daunting trip to Derby but admits
it will be “tight”.
After three games at the helm and the
Millers looking set for a relegation battle this season, Redfearn has identified that his side need some fresh arrivals.
He has lined up his targets, insisting
he will only bring them in if they will improve his squad, and will now try and
get the deals over the line.
“We have got to bring some lads in to help
the ones that are here, but the ones that come in have got to be better
quality, there’s no point bringing in players that are only as good, you may as
well persevere with the ones you have got," he said.
“If we can get two or three in then they
are the ones who are going to make a difference.
“It might be tight (for the weekend), but
we are on with it, we are talking to quite a few people.
“We know the areas where we want to
strengthen and we know the players we want to bring in but obviously with them
being good players other people want them. It’s whether we can get these over
the line.
“We are at that point where we can’t make
the clubs move any quicker because they are looking whether they are going to
keep them. We will try and get it done sooner rather than later.
“What I don’t want to do is just bring
anyone in for the sake of it. But these players need help, the league table
says so.”
One of those targets may be Hibernian’s
Jason Cummings, though Redfearn has ruled out a move for former Newcastle and
Blackburn striker Leon Best.
