Grant Ward extends Rotherham loan until January

Rotherham completed a busy day's work by extending the loan spell of midfielder Grant Ward until January.

The 20-year-old, who was originally on a six-month youth loan from Premier League outfit Tottenham, will now stay with the Millers until the new year after his youth loan was changed to an emergency loan.

Ward enjoyed a fine pre-season, but initially struggled when exposed to Championship action for the first time.

However, he scored a superb goal against Burnley and boss Neil Redfearn has shown faith in him, starting all but one of his seven games in charge.

And now Redfearn has put further trust in him by keeping him for the next month.

The Millers boss said: "Grant has impressed me. He has shown some mental resilience and toughness for a young boy.

"There has been a couple of games where it hasn't been great, Ipswich and things like that, but he has come out of the other side and that shows mental toughness.

"The boy has got ability, there's no two ways about it, he is learning the game so like all young players they do daft stuff at times but I think the benefits of him far outweigh his learning curve.

"He is a talented player and what he does is give you energy and legs in midfield, he has got an eye for goal and I think he is a player for us at the moment.

"He is a quiet boy but I think he is deeper and has a tougher mentality than people think.

"He doesn’t like the idea of being pampered, he likes the idea of getting things done and to be honest with you, as a mentality that is right up my street."
