Greg Halford "under-performed" at Rotherham says Birmingham boss Gary Rowett
Birmingham boss Gary Rowett knows he has to get the best out of new signing Greg Halford after admitting he "under-performed" at Rotherham.
The 30-year-old left the Millers to join fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Blue on loan until January 2, ending a nightmare few months in South Yorkshire.
Arriving as Steve Evans' marquee summer signing, Halford endured a rapid fall from grace after losing the captaincy and being dropped after just nine games.
He has been frozen out under new boss Neil Redfearn and heads to St Andrew's trying to resurrect his career.
Birmingham become the 11th club of Halford's career and Rowett will give him special attention.
"Greg's one we looked at in the summer," Rowett said on Birmingham's official website.
"He signed there as their captain and I feel he has certainly under-performed since he's been at the club.
"He has played in the Championship for many years. He is versatile, he will give us a little bit of height, an extra presence, and a long throw option.
"He's someone we feel will be a really good addition to us, if we can manage the situation in the right way and get the best out of him."
