Neil Redfearn on Leon Best: We could have one of the best strikers in the league

Rotherham could have one of the best strikers in the division on their hands in Leon Best, reckons boss Neil Redfearn.

Best, who signed a short-term contract until the end of the season last week following a successful trial, endured a bittersweet debut at Leeds on Saturday as he saw red in the second half after an elbow on Gaetano Berardi.

Prior to that he had led the Millers line to good effect in the 1-0 win and showed glimpses of the talent that made him a Premier League striker.

Redfearn must frustratingly now do without the 29-year-old for three matches, but is excited about what he can bring to his side.

“It’s a shame because he is going to be a big player for us,” he said.

“His ability is undoubted. If we can get him playing to his abilities we have probably got one of the best players in the division.

“I thought he did great at Leeds, I think he is going to get better and better.

“Second half he really warmed to it, he is a real physical presence, he has got undoubted ability.

“He feels loved, that’s a big thing. You can’t doubt the lad’s ability but he has been pushed around the leagues and hasn’t really been given an opportunity, but he’s somewhere where we will respect him and he’ll be a great signing for us.”
