Neil Redfearn remaining grounded after laying foundations
Rotherham manager Neil
Redfearn will not get carried away after finally registering his first win at
the helm, but admits there is something to build on.
Redfearn earned his first
three points as Millers boss with a sweet 1-0 victory at Leeds thanks to Joe
Newell’s second-half header.
Not only did it give Redfearn
the last laugh over his former employers and also allow the Millers to get one
over on their former boss Steve Evans, but more importantly it stopped the rot.
Redfearn had taken just one
point in his first six games in charge and the Millers slipped to five points of safety in
a nasty-looking run of fixtures.
But they are out of
the other side of that now and are going into a reasonable run of fixtures
with some momentum.
“It was sweet because it was the
three points we needed and in the end it was the three points we deserved,” the
Millers boss said.
“This can be a good
catalyst for us.
“There is going to be a lot
of twists and turns but we have got to put a lot of performances like that
together more often than not and if we do that we will start picking points up.
“If I look at the run of
games we have had, we have played six sides in the top 10 and that is a tough
run of fixtures and never once did I get down on it because I knew there had to
be some perspective and we had to realise what we were up against.
“It's
one swallow and it doesn't make a summer but what it does do is give the boys
some belief.
“We talked all along about
staying in the game, toughing things and at having the margins closer and the
margins were close and we got the right side.”
