Manager Neil Redfearn says Rotherham fans were "spot on" to boo their side during the 5-2 horror show against Ipswich on Saturday.
Having returned to home soil after difficult back-to-back away games at Derby and Middlesbrough, the expectation was on the Millers to put in an impressive display and stop the rot of just one point from six games.
However, it was a step backwards for Redfearn's men as they put in their worst performance of the season, finding themselves 4-0 down after 48 minutes.
The Millers crowd sounded their disapproval at a shocking first-half display against the Tractor Boys with a resounding chorus of boos at the half-time and full-time whistle.
"If it's not right then supporters will let you know and I said to them at half-time that the supporters are spot on" Redfearn said.
"It's not acceptable, we have to compete better than that, we have got to manage the game better than that.
"They are not mugs Ipswich, they are not going to come and lay down and let us walk all over them. But we gave them a leg up. Poor mistakes and their goals go in far too easily.
"To be fair our goals were top, top goals but we had to do that to get them because Ipswich were at it and we have to be at it more often than not and today we were far away with it.
"The biggest thing for me is that the bare minimum the supporters can expect is the effort and the endeavour and that whoever comes to play knows they have been in a game.
"If we are a little bit short and they are better than us and someone screams one in and win 1-0 then you hold you hands up.
"Sometimes you can't do anything about that. But the goals were so easy, Ipswich haven't had to work hard today to get the goals."
The writing was on the wall for the Millers after Freddie Sears missed a golden chance for Ipswich with less than a minute played and that set the tone for an awful afternoon.
"It started in the first minute, with Danny Collins trying a back header to Lee Camp to put them completely free on goal, Campy makes a good save and we get away with it and it sort of went on from there," Redfearn added.
"It was really tentative and nervous and I can't understand why we needed to play like that.
"We have been to Middlesbrough where we you have got to a reason to be nervous against a top side and defended well and made it difficult for them.
"Today, we were really negative in midfield, we didn't get close to them, we didn't work hard enough, we didn't do the ugly stuff well."
