Alfie talks of 'special affinity' with Millers ahead of first reunion
Adam Le Fondre has spoken of his "special affinity" with Rotherham ahead of his first return to South Yorkshire.
Le Fondre scored 58 goals in 105 appearances for the Millers between 2009 and 2011 and was a shining light in a dark period for the club when they were playing at Don Valley Stadium.
He has yet to come face-to-face with his former employees since leaving for Reading but will do so for the first time when Wolves visit New York Stadium on Saturday.
The club are in a far better position now than when Le Fondre pulled on the red and white shirt, but the former Rochdale man still looks back at his time with affection.
“I had a great time at Rotherham in my two seasons there – some really fond memories,” he said.
“It was great for me, a real springboard to my career, and I can’t thank them enough for what they did for me.
“It is going to be nice to go to the new stadium as I played at Don Valley when I was there and I missed out on going back with Bolton last season as I only signed the day before the game.
“When I joined Rotherham we always had aspirations of getting promoted (from League Two) and we had a near miss in the first season losing in the play-off final to Dagenham & Redbridge.
“We missed out again the following year but it was all galvanised under Steve Evans who took them on leaps and bounds.
“They got the new stadium, and the whole area got behind them again having had to go to Sheffield to play their games.
“I was delighted to see them get promoted into the Championship a couple of seasons ago.
“So yes I have a special affinity with Rotherham and hopefully will get a nice reception but the most important thing is for us to get three points.
“We’ve not won for a while, and we need the result.”
