Danny Ward's ankle injury has Rotherham sweating
Rotherham are hopeful that
Danny Ward’s ankle injury is not too serious.
The 23-year-old forward
hobbled out of Wednesday’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Leicester with the problem
after being clattered from behind by Liam Moore.
Ward tried to run off the injury,
but was withdrawn in the 22nd minute and replaced by Jordan Bowery.
Assistant Paul Raynor does
not think the injury is too serious and hopes to have Ward available for
Saturday’s visit of German Bundesliga side Mainz.
Raynor said: “It looks like
it is just a knock, we will know more in the morning, but it looks like it was
a knock to the ankle.
“Sometimes you can shake them
off, but sometimes you can’t so fingers crossed that that’s all it is.
“Danny has been a little bit
unfortunate in pre-season he has had some niggles and knocks and sometimes that
is the luck you have.
“Hopefully it’s nothing too
serious and he will be able to train towards the game for Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Raynor confirmed
that loanee Farrend Rawson is currently at Derby getting treatment on an
injury.
The 19-year-old, infamous forbeing the ineligible player which cost the Millers three points last season, has
yet to feature during pre-season following his loan move from the Rams, but is
expected back in South Yorkshire soon.
“Rawson has had a little
niggle, Derby have asked that he has done his rehabilitation with them and we
are quite happy to do that, he is their player,” the Millers number two said.
“But
he is not far away, we are told he is days away rather than anything else.
“So it’s nothing too serious,
we just want to get that cleared up before he comes to us ready for his loan
spell.
“It’s days more than anything
else, but he is going to be a little bit short on match fitness but he is
certainly not far away at all.”
