Former Millers trialist Ricardo Vaz Te joins Championship rivals Charlton

Ricardo Vaz Te has joined Rotherham's Championship rivals Charlton, just days after being told he would not earn a contract with the Millers.

The 29-year-old Portuguese had been training at Roundwood this week in a bid to win a contract, but boss Neil Redfearn, desperate to add new faces to his ailing squad, was not been suitably impressed and sent him on his way.

Vaz Te, who has has been without a club since leaving Turkish side Akhisar Belediyespor in the summer, has now penned a contract with the Addicks until the end of the season after training with his new team-mates on Friday morning.

The Millers will continue to run the rule over former Reading and Republic of Ireland pair Stephen Hunt and Stephen Kelly, though.

Both men have also been training at Roundwood this week and took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly as they look to find their first club since their respective exits from Ipswich and the Royals.

Leon Best has entered his second week of training with the club and looks set to earn a deal.

The trio of ex-Premier League stars training at the club continues Redfearn's attempts to strengthen his squad.

The former Leeds boss, without a win in a torrid run of six games at the helm which has seen the Millers slip to five points adrift of safety has already brought in two players, with Harry Toffolo and Brandon Barker joining from Norwich and Manchester City respectively.
