Resurgent Paul Green admits Ipswich "shocker" but pleased with response

Rotherham midfielder Paul Green has broken his silence on his horror afternoon against Ipswich, admitting he had "a shocker".

The 32-year-old was inexplicably booed by his own supporters after two errors gifted his former club a 22nd-minute two-goal lead in a game they went on to lose 5-2 in early
November.

Green was the recipient of abuse from sections of the New York crowd, who booed his every touch, and he was hauled off at half-time, not reappearing again until a substitute's appearance on Boxing Day.

And the Irishman's comeback was complete on Saturday at Leeds as he started the game and performed confidently in a central midfield role a week after playing 80 minutes as a sub at Preston.

Green admits he performed poorly that day against Ipswich, but says the crowd's reaction did not help matters.

“Ipswich was tough. You know yourself you’ve not played well, and obviously a few boos from the fans when you’re getting the ball doesn’t help,” he said.

“I’m big enough and strong enough to cope, and better players than me have had it before. You’ve just got to get on with it. It’s part of football. Everyone has got their opinions.

“I’ve managed to get myself back in the team and think I’ve done well in the last two games.

“Having the fans on your back is frustrating, but you know if you’re doing well in the team and I had a bit of a shocker against Ipswich.

“I wasn’t playing in my preferred position in the centre, but that’s no excuse. I’ve dug deep in training and I’ve worked hard to get myself back in.”
