Tony Andreu leaves Rotherham in order to fight for Norwich career
Rotherham loanee Tony Andreu has returned to parent club
Norwich in a bid to break into the first team at Carrow Road.
The Frenchman's three-month spell from the Canaries came to
an end after the Millers' 2-1 defeat at Preston on Saturday - a game he opened
the scoring in - and boss Neil Redfearn was trying to extend the deal.
However, Andreu has been offered hope of some action in the
Premier League by Norwich boss Alex Neil and has opted to return to Norfolk.
Redfearn said: "He has been performing well of late.
It's one of those things, he wanted to go back and have a conversation with
Alex Neil.
"Alex Neil has told him he is involved in his plans and
that is one of the drawbacks of loans.
"Tony goes with our best wishes, he is a good player
and a top pro."
Andreu scored two goals in 11 appearances for the Millers
and started the last three.
It worsens Rotherham's midfield shortage ahead of Saturday's FA Cup to Leeds, with Lee Frecklington injured and Luke Hyam recently recalled by Ipswich.
And Redfearn is hoping to swell his numbers in time for the weekend.
“We know the ones we want to bring in. We’re
very close to getting two in,” he said.
“We’ve spoken to players, spoken to
agents - all with positive feedback.
“We’re looking at midfield and we’re
looking at striking options. In time for the weekend? You never say never. I’m
hoping so. If we can come to agreements with the clubs and the clubs play ball,
we might get a couple in.”
