Hammill: Don't write Millers off
Former loanee Adam Hammill
expects Rotherham to “kick on” this season.
The 27-year-old spent the
second half of last term with the Millers on loan from Huddersfield making 14
appearances.
Hammill played a part in the
club’s survival, notably creating Jordan Bowery’s late equaliser in a thrilling draw with Norwich at the back end of the season.
But overall, it was a
frustrating time for the former Wolves winger as his quality only came through
in glimpses.
Boss Steve Evans intimated
there was no chance of a permanent deal earlier in the summer and Hammill has
gone back to Huddersfield in a bid to prove himself in the final season of a
three-year deal.
Although being the latest in
a long line of ex-players to draw attention to Evans’ unique style of
management, he admits that the Scot has the ability to deliver on his
pre-season target of “mid-table looking up”.
“I wish the club all the
best, and I certainly wouldn’t go writing them off," he told the Huddersfield Examiner.
“And with that season of
Championship experience behind them, Rotherham could kick on as well.
“Steve Evans is a different
sort of manager, for sure, and there were things we didn’t agree on.
“But you don’t win
back-to-back promotions, then establish a team in the Championship like he did,
without having qualities.
“Steve gets the best out of
his players, and Rotherham are always well organised.
“All the players stick to
their jobs, and they work really hard.
“When they out-work the
opposition, they get results.”
