After
enduring the season from hell last year, new recruit Aidy White does
not care a jot where he fits into the Rotherham side.
The
23-year-old was the Millers' first summer signing and penned a
one-year deal following his release from Leeds where his 2014/15
campaign was wiped out through injury.
White,
who can play anywhere on the left hand side, suffered a foot injury
in pre-season and after having
to undergo surgery had to wait until the final game of the season
to make his first appearance, ironically against the Millers in a 0-0
draw at Elland Road.
Boss
Steve Evans has intimated that White has been brought to the AESSEAL
New York Stadium to operate as a left winger, but the man himself is
only bothered about being on the pitch.
“My
main aim is to be playing every week," he said. "I want to stake my place in the
team and stay there and get on the scoresheet a few times. I just
want to get back playing and enjoying myself and showing people what
I can do.
"Predominantly,
he has signed me as a winger, although it doesn't mean I wouldn't
play left-back if needs be. He has brought in Joe Mattock as a
left-back and the manager said to me before I signed that he was
looking to play me on the wing. Obviously, things can change, but I
am quite happy playing any position.
"I
switched a lot at Leeds between left wing and left back. I am
comfortable playing there and I have played right wing, left back and
in the hole. A bit of everywhere, as long as I am playing, I am
happy.”
White
was the first through the door this summer and has been followed by
six other new signings as the Millers shape a squad capable of
Championship success.
And
the former Leeds man is encouraged by his fellow new arrivals.
He
added: “It shows the aims of the club this season with the
quality of players who have come in.
“They are
all established Championship players and it's only going to get
better. They are all good signings in my eyes.”
