So after a fortnight's break, Rotherham will try and kick-start their season when they travel to Charlton on Saturday, aiming for a first win of the campaign.
Lots has happened since they last played, including a new captain being appointed and the manager's future being questioned.
Here are five things to look out for.
Will Greg Halford even be in the team?
Greg Halford's fall from grace could be complete if he doesn't even make the team at The Valley. The last time the Millers played he was captain and seemingly an integral part of Evans' plans. But a lot can happen in two weeks and having lost the armband, Halford could very well find himself out of the side as Evans tries to build a defence that stops leaking goals at the alarming rate that we have seen in the opening month. Evans has said that he thinks relinquishing the captaincy could see an improvement in Halford's game, but with Farrend Rawson now fit, Tom Thorpe sat waiting for a chance and Kirk Broadfoot almost back from a ban, the former Nottingham Forest man's days as a centre-back could be numbered.
Matt Derbyshire's confidence
There were high hopes for Matt Derbyshire for this season given the way he finished last term, but his early-season form in front of goal is reminiscent of this time last year and his confidence seems to be affected. He's always had missing a sitter in his locker, even when in form (see Norwich at home last season), but there have been a string of worrying misses already. His nadir came against Fulham last time out when he missed a crucial penalty and it affected him as a promising later move involving Emmanuel Ledesma broke down due to a poor touch from the striker which you not normally associate with him. He is working as hard as ever and generally his link-up play has been impressive, but the Millers need him to start finding the back of the net and we know he needs confidence for that to happen. Let's hope he has been able to regain that during the international break.
Could this be the Steve Evans ' swansong?
Mystery surrounds Steve Evans’
future at the club as he has been heavily linked the vacant managerial position
at Peterborough again. The Scot is an overwhelming favourite for the London
Road gig. As was
the case six months ago, Evans did not take up the opportunity to quash the
rumours when he swerved his pre-match press duties on Thursday to attend an “internal
meeting”, despite doing the club media minutes before. Evans only said last
week – before the Peterborough job came up – that he would be at the club for “years
to come”, but he has also said he would love to manage Posh one day. The
silence so far is deafening and even though Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has appeared to rule out an approach on Twitter, there is undoubtedly potential that this could
be one of, if not Evans’ last game in charge.
Who the hell is going to
play?
With the Millers finally
being able to report a clean bill of health following the international break
and three new players through the door since they last played, who will take
the field at The Valley is anyone’s guess. There is almost certainly going to
be a debut for Lee Camp in goal, but after the leaky start to the season it is
difficult to see the back four remaining the same as the Fulham game,
especially with Joe Mattock now fit. Vadis Odjidja and Tony Andreu will also be
pushing for debuts following their deadline day moves.
Are Charlton any good?
The Addicks were second
favourites for the drop in pre-season – behind the Millers of course – but
their early form has defied those tipsters. Indeed, Guy Luzon, who was booed
when the Millers played in south London in January, has guided his team to two
wins, two draws and a defeat from the opening five games. Victories over QPR
and Hull and a draw with Derby suggest that the Addicks are not going to be the
pushovers everyone expected. So, this is not an easy game for Evans’ men, but
one on paper they should be looking to get something out of it. They are boosted by a decent record against the Addicks, though there have not been too many meetings in recent years. Both games ended 1-1 last season and the Millers will probably take a similar scoreline this time.
