Neil Redfearn wants to get more out of 'matchwinner' Chris Maguire
Chris Maguire will have an extra spring in his step if he gets on the field against Sheffield Wednesday and boss Neil Redfearn believes he can be a matchwinner.
The 26-year-old comes face-to-face with the club he left in the summer for the first time at New York Stadium tonight and has a point to prove, though he's likely to be on the bench.
He was not quiet about the reasons he left Hillsborough in the summer, citing the club's sacking of Stuart Gray, a poor contract offer and the transfer policy as reasons for deciding to move on.
He ended up at Rotherham and his start to life with the Millers has hardly been eye-catching.
Inconsistent performances have seen him drop in and out of the side and he is yet to make a real impact in a red and white shirt.
However, Redfearn believes he can get the best out of the Scot.
"We have got to open Chris' mind," the new Millers boss said. "He has been pigeon-holed perhaps as a wide right player but whatever system we play if we pass the ball and are comfortable in possession a Chris Maguire is the type of player that is going to hurt people.
"We have to get that in his make up and mind, I think he knows he needs to be more consistent, we've had that discussion, but he also knows he's a super talent and has got real ability.
"He's a matchwinner but we have got to see that on a more consistent basis and he knows that, but I am a big fan of Chris Maguire's.
"There's more in these players and it is my job to make them better."
