Neil Redfearn invites more trialists to Rotherham

Rotherham will bring in more trialists as boss Neil Redfearn desperately tries to strengthen his squad.

Redfearn, who is without a win in his first five games, has already been taking a look at Leon Best and Adam Drury, with the latter heading to Gainsborough Trinity as he is unable to join a Football League club until January.

He is expecting more through the door next week as plots to build a squad capable of staying in the Championship.

"Next week we've got a couple more coming in," Redfearn said. "They're free agents.

"They're a couple who have played at international level and have played Championship football.

"It just strengthens our arm. It gives us a chance to have a look at people. That's going to mean that some people have to go out. That's football.

"We've got to break this up and we've got to get ourselves in a position where we can go and compete and start picking points up.

"The ones coming in are experienced players. They've played for their countries. They're without clubs at the moment.

"We've got two, maybe three, and we're going to try to get them in and have a look at them early next week with a view to doing something with them over the international break with regards to playing a behind-closed-doors game, making a decision on them and hopefully coming to a positive agreement."

Former Blackburn striker Best been on trial with the Millers all week, and Redfearn hopes he get can a deal tied up at some point.

"He's done ever so well," Redfearn said. "He's had two or three training sessions with us this week.

"He looks quite sharp. It's just a case of seeing where we can get with him.

"He's got the pedigree. He's more than capable of playing at this level. He seems hungry to do well, so I'm hoping he could be an addition for us somewhere down the line.

"If he can reignite his career, we'd have a Premier League striker on our books.

"The ideal scenario is to get Leon in a position where he's back to roughly around what he can be.

"He's shown good signs, I have to say. He's looked after himself. He carries no weight. He's a strong, powerful boy.

"We've done as much as we can with him to do get him as sharp as we can."
